Top 10 Jewels from the 2017 Emmys

The 2017 Primetime Emmy Awards, held on Sunday September 17 in Los Angeles, provide a hint of what may be to come in the next Hollywood red carpet season.

Statement earrings were plentiful, either colourful gem mixes or long draping diamonds, as were necklaces that hugged the collarbone. Truly bold statements were not to be found here, with one very notable exception,  but overall it was an elegant and glamorous night for television's finest.

The most talked about jewels of the evening were undoubtedly the emerald suite worn by eternally youthful Jane Fonda. Made specifically for the occasion by Italian jeweller Gismondi, over 100 carats of emeralds cascaded down Fonda’s back. We should all hope to be so stylish at 79!

Also making a statement with emeralds was Emmy Rossum in Lorraine Schwartz. 58 carats of Colombian emeralds adorned her ears, while a glowing 20 carat ring finished off the look.

Jewels made specifically for the occasion were worn by a Chanel Haute Couture-clad Tracee Ellis Ross. Irene Neuwirth worked with diamonds and pearls to provide the perfect accessories for the silver-sequinned dress.

The sparking silver continued with Sarah Paulson, who went for vintage-style Lorraine Schwartz diamond earrings to complement her straight-from-the-runway Carolina Herrera.

Reese Witherspoon opted for a bold David Webb earring to match the structured navy power suit dress she wore to pick up her Emmy, while Madeline Brewer kept the ear climber and asymmetrical earring trend alive with a stylish combo from Djula.

Moving focus to the collarbone, Gabrielle Union’s Buccellati necklace was the perfect complement to her lacy cape and dress from Zuhair Murad.

Proving that sometimes simplest is best, Zoe Kravitz balanced a colourful Dior dress with two diamond riviere necklaces from Tiffany & Co. As one of the newest spokesmodels for the brand, one can expect to see more of Kravitz wearing the pieces in a very contemporary way. Speaking of simple statements, Yvonne Strahovski’s Cartier Juste en Clou collar provided just the right balance to her minimalist look.

And finally, Oprah gets a special mention for wearing one of my favorite pieces of jewelry from the Couture Show held earlier this year in June. Nikos Koulis exhibited his latest from the V Collection at the trade show and its striking combination of emeralds, diamonds and black enamel caught many eyes.

While it might be several months until the next major red carpet (Golden Globes on January 7, 2018!), this event leaves one anticipating what statements are to come next. Will earrings and collar necklaces reign through to the Oscars? Let’s see!
