Preview: Sotheby's Magnificent Jewels Geneva
Colored diamonds are leading the way in Geneva for Sotheby's next auction. Important pink and blue diamonds are the top five lots in the upcoming Magnificent Jewels sale, taking place on May 16.
The 'Apollo' blue and 'Artemis' pink diamond earrings, possibly the world's most valuable pair of earrings, are leading the auction as two separate lots. Perfectly matched in size and cut, the Apollo diamond is a 14.54ct internally flawless Fancy Vivid Blue, while the Artemis diamond is a 16.00ct VVS2 Fancy Intense Pink. The combined pair could fetch $50-68 million, with the Artemis Pink estimated at $12-18 million and the more rare Apollo Blue estimated at $38-50 million. Two pink diamond rings are also expected to fetch high sums. Lot 371 is a 7.04ct fancy intense purplish pink diamond set in a Piaget ring that carries an estimate $8-12 million. Lot 364 is a cushion-cut fancy pink diamond ring of 21.11cts that carries an estimate of $3-5 million. As well, a stunning fancy vivid blue diamond of 3.32cts is Lot 363A and carries an estimate of $6-8 million. Watch a video below of the Piaget pink diamond ring.
The sale takes place in Geneva at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel on May 16 in three sessions. Previews begin in Geneva on May 13.
