Sotheby's Unveils 'Apollo & Artemis' Diamonds
Yesterday in London, Sotheby’s unveiled what may be the most valuable pair of earrings in the world.
Named ‘Apollo & Artemis’, the earrings feature a 14.54 carat internally flawless Fancy Vivid Blue diamond and a 16.00 carat VVS2 Fancy Intense Pink diamond. They will be auctioned by Sotheby’s as part of the Magnificent Jewels sale in Geneva on May 16.
Perfectly matched in size and cut, they are “by far the most important pair of earrings ever offered at auction” according to David Bennett, Worldwide Chairman of Sotheby’s International Jewellery.
The two pieces are being offered as separate lots in the sale due to their individual value. The Artemis Pink carries an estimate of $12.5-18 million, while the Apollo Blue, due to the comparative rarity, carries an estimate of $38-50 million. If purchased together, the resulting pair could go for a combined $50.5-68 million.
The auction takes place at the Mandarin Oriental on May 16 in Geneva.
