Spring 2017 Couture Week: Jewelry Highlights
Amid a very chilly week in Paris, select venues played host to the imaginative creations of the haute couture designers presenting their visions for Spring 2017.
As always, I had one eye on the fashion and one on their accompanying jewels. Ornate would be the first word to come to mind this season. Heavy embellishment in gold, head pieces and brooches stood out where thoughts of minimalism were vanquished.
Alexis Mabille brought a regal touch to his show with major tiaras of royal provenance, although these were replicas of the real pieces. Elie Saab and Guo Pei also went the same route though with differing levels of decadence.
Brooches are proving to be a mainstay in haute couture with a number of houses adding the finishing touch. An interesting placement for a necklace/brooch double play was seen at Giambattista Valli, where all jewels were once again supplied by Buccellati. Alberta Ferretti, Schiaparelli and Chanel also pinned one on.
Other than the brooch, Chanel made a single accessory statement with a pearl anklet on many of the models. Perhaps this 90s trend is next to take off after the choker??
Runway eyes next turn to New York fashion week, just around the corner.
