Museo del Gioiello debuts 2nd Edition
The Jewellery Museum in Vicenza (Museo del Gioiello), which first opened in December of 2014, has recently unveiled its '2nd Edition 2017-2018’, a refresh of the permanent collection.
Organized around nine themes - Symbol, Magic, Function, Beauty, Art, Fashion, Design, Icon, Future - the content of each room was selected by a different curator from a group brought together with wide-ranging backgrounds.
Nicholas Bos, CEO of Van Cleef & Arpels, explores nature for the Beauty room, anthropologist Maria Cristina del Mare highlights jewelry that has been thought to hold mystical powers in the Magic room, while historian Alessandra Possamai brings together bejewelled buttons, clasps, chatelaines, hair combs and more in the Function room.
The museum, Italy’s first dedicated to jewelry, is housed in the magnificent 16th century Basilica Palladiana - a UNESCO World Heritage site. Vicenza has long been a center of the jewelry craft in Italy and over 35,000 visitors have passed through since it’s opening.
If you’ve had the good fortunate to have visited the museum since it first opened, this new exhibition will be sure to have you seeing it in a new light. If you can’t make it to the exhibition, the website has many articles and videos about the pieces.
